kocka CITY BREAKS - Opatija

dubrovnik

Opatija - alias the Nice of the Adriatic, Opatija has a long tradition as a fashionable seaside resort of aristocracy and the rich. Situated below the mountain and Nature Park Učka, Opatija is a great choice for a vacation in summer and winter season.

Its Austro-Hungarian imperial feel, fin-de-siècle hotels and grand villas, colourful floral displays and landscaped gardens as well as a beautiful waterfront promenade make it an absolute must see and a first-rate destination for luxury and conference tourism.

Its grand villas, old-style grand hotels, wide boulevards, subtropical botanical gardens and busy marinas have attracted Europeans since 19 century, with almost religious fervour – by its crystal-clear sea and the Mediterranean blue of its seemingly limitless sky.

Programme proposal:

Day 1 Arrival to Opatija

Upon arrival to Rijeka airport you will be transferred to your hotel in Opatija. Rest of the day at leisure to enjoy Opatija on your own, take a walk along the promenade and enjoy the sunset.

Day 2 Istra Tour (Pula, Rovinj, Poreč)
Sponza Palace
Breakfast at hotel, full day tour of Croatian largest peninsula; Istria. Enjoy the beauty of green hills and numerous vineyards. First drive to Pula (about 1.5 hr drive) for the walking tour of Pula – a true jewel of Roman architecture, famous for its Roman Amphitheatre, one of the most elegant and best preserved in the world. Like the rest of the region, it is known for its mild climate, tame sea, and unspoiled nature. The city has a long tradition of winemaking, fishing, shipbuilding and tourism. Pula has also been Istria’s administrative centre since ancient Roman times. In the middle Ages the town walls were reinforced, and some of the Roman temples were turned into Roman Catholic churches. The Roman Amphitheatre, from the 1st and 2nd centuries, occupies a dominant position above the harbour.
After the sightseeing of Pula, drive for short visits to Pore and Rovinj and then return to Opatija in the late afternoon.

Day 3 Postojna - Slovenia biggest cave
Sponza Palace
Breakfast at hotel, morning drive toward the border between Croatia and Slovenia and reach Postojna one of the most beautiful karst caves in Europe 22 km long. Visit cave with electric train through one part of the cave, after which there is a 2 km walk through the most stunning part of the cave. The mysterious Postojna cave world is the part of Slovenia which has been carved, shaped and created by water; deep within these world-famous caves hide the most precious beauty created through millions of years, drop by drop, year after year... The 20-kilometre-long underworld system is a miracle in itself, but one becomes truly astounded at the look of the mysterious "human fish" (Proteus Anguinus), wondering at the strange form of life preserved in the underground kingdom. Another mystery of the underground. The cave is accessible without special equipment, and has a constant temperature of 10 degrees Celsius. Visitors are taken for a tour by a special cave train, accompanied by experienced guides. A visit takes an hour and a half. Sports and warm wear are recommended. In the afternoon departure towards the border between Slovenia and Croatia, to Opatija (about 1.5 hr drive).
